Festival of Ideas: Mozart Requiem June 2017

Mozart’s fragmented masterpiece: YMS held an open rehearsal as part of the University of York’s Festival of Ideas, on 12th June 2017. The first part of the evening was a lecture by Dr John Warrack, who told the fascinating ‘behind the scenes’ tale of different attempts to complete the Mozart Requiem, with musical examples on CD and sung by YMS.

After a coffee break, many of the visitors accepted the invitation to join the choir for a regular rehearsal, with conductor David Pipe, and Richard Shephard accompanying.

Examples from visitors’ comments: ‘Brilliant speaker – no notes!’ ‘Beautiful!’ ‘Very interesting to see how they work.’ ‘Suberb musicianship, excellent atmosphere of encouragement and a very impressive speaker.’
