About YMS

Our repertoire is wide, from major choral works to smaller, less familiar works featuring pieces from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.

In recent years the choir has performed Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt; Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens; Verdi’s Requiem (in York Minster and Coventry Cathedral); Jenkins’s The Armed Man; Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs, Toward the Unknown Region and Donna Nobis Pacem; Mozart’s Requiem and C Minor Mass; Carter’s Benedicite; Orff’s Carmina Burana; Brahms’s Geistliches Lied and German Requiem; Holst’s Choral Hymns from Rig Veda; Copland’s Old American Songs; Rutter’s A Sprig of Thyme and Requiem; Bach’s St John Passion and St Matthew Passion; Elgar’s The Music Makers (in Münster); Mendelssohn’s Elijah  (in Coventry Cathedral).

We usually sing with our York Musical Society Orchestra and are fortunate to be able to call on excellent professional soloists.
